New book

Lately I've been busy finishing my last book that will be published early next year in Spain.

A book full of little strange creatures and with a girl as main character. But for now I can´t tell you anything else.

Now all the work rests in a big drawer and me on the sofa.

Últimamente he estado ocupada acabando mi último libro que saldrá a principios del año que viene en España. Un libro lleno de pequeñas criaturas extrañas y con una niña de protagonista. Pero por ahora no puedo contaros nada más. 
Ahora todo el trabajo descansa en un enorme cajón y yo en el sofá.

Don Romualdo

My new picturebook "Don Romualdo" published by Tres Tigres Tristes and written by Margarita del Mazo is out!
I want to thank my ""Tiger" editors  for their trust and enthusiasm in the project. And to Margarita del Mazo for counting on me for her story and make me an accomplice in the wanderings of Don Romualdo.

I can't tell you who the mysterious Don Romualdo is since you will have to find him on his adventure for a whole day in the city! 
The newspaper El País also recommended our book at the last Book Fair in Madrid. You can read is here.
The book will be published soon in Italy and France.

Ya está en librerías mi nuevo albúm ilustrado "Don Romualdo" publicado por Tres Tigres Tristes y escrito por Margarita del Mazo. 
Quiero agradecer a los editores "tigres" su confianza y entusiasmo en el proyecto. Y a Margarita del Mazo que contara conmigo para su historia y me hiciera cómplice de las andanzas de Don Romualdo. 

No os puedo desvelar quien es el misterioso Don Romualdo ya que tendréis que encontrarle en su aventura durante todo un día por la ciudad! 
Además El País recomendó nuestro libro en la última Feria del Libro de Madrid. Podéis leer el artículo aquí.

In this Renaissance palace, the Palacio de Santa Cruz, home of the University of Valladolid and the Jimenez-Arellano Foundation, Alberto Sobrino and I went to visit and a great exhibition of African art. When you fancy you can make a virtual visit here.

En este palacio renacentista, el Palacio de Santa Cruz, sede de la Universidad de Valladolid y de  la Fundación Jiménez -Arellano, fuimos a visitar, Alberto Sobrino y yo, una estupenda exposición de arte africano. Al que le apetezca puede hacer una visita virtual aquí.

Vilustrado 2015

As I said earlier, this June we organized the 1st International Meeting of illustration, Vilustrado 2015.
 For this we were lucky to have the magnificent space and collaborators of LAVA.

We were fortunate and privileged to enjoy of the participation of  Benoît Jacques, Yara Kono, Simone Rea, Marianne Dubuc,  Pablo Auladell and Riki Blanco Auladell giving workshops.

We enjoyed the lecture-discussion with Gustavo Puerta, Sandra López, Angel Domingo, Celso Martínez,  Raquel Cuenca y Cintia Martín.
Illustrators Cintia Martín, Alberto Sobrino, Fernando Pérez, Patricia de Cos, Primo Martín, Yolanda Falagán, Jorge Consuegra y Julio Falagán gave workshops in schools in Valladolid and in the framework of the event.
And thanks to bookstores Lobo Feroz, La Letra i, Livraria Delarriva and La atómica, for supply us with treasures.

I wanted to thank all the participants and attendees, from here, their time, energy and enthusiasm.
Who shared with us the spirit of Vilustrado, understanding this event, not as a business but as a meeting and participation place where the public money, the City Council, is invested in the professionals attendees,  in the free access to the talks, and the creation, through a contest, of a grant for 10 people to attend free to the event and stay, and, most importantly, leading illustration to schools, involving the city.

Cómo os comenté anteriormente, este mes de junio organizamos el 1er Encuentro Internacional de ilustración, Vilustrado 2015. Para ello tuvimos la suerte de contar con el magnífico espacio y colaboradores del LAVA.
Tuvimos la suerte y el privilegio de contar con la participación de Benoît Jacques, Yara Kono, Simone Rea, Marianne Dubuc,  Pablo Auladell y Riki Blanco impartiendo talleres.

León

We went to Leon few days ago to see the Cathedral and take a walk.

I didn't know that the Casa Botines was Gaudí's work.  I like it, seems taken from a fairy tale (as in Astorga).

Fuimos a León hace unos días, a ver la Catedral y pasear. 
No sabía que la Casa Botines era obra de Gaudí. Me gusta, parece sacada de un cuento (como la de Astorga).

Madrid 2

After wandering from place to place, I still had time to go with my little friend Chloé at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, where we attended a workshop on colors.

Not only we were lucky enough to discover new artworks and talk about them but to provide new insights. Those of the children were much more interesting than those of adults.

Do you see that finger raised in the photo? Yes, that's Chloé willing to give their opinion on this Delaunay's painting. Of course the work of Kandinsky, pictured, resulted in all kinds of imaginative interpretations. And so we find out about Kandinsky's synesthesia and we started making sounds of colors ... it was a great afternoon.

Después de pasear de un sitio a otro aún tuve tiempo de ir con mi amiga pequeña Chloé al Thyssen Bornemisza, dónde asistimos a un taller sobre colores.
No sólo tuvimos la suerte de descubrir nuevas obras y hablar sobre ellas sino aportar nuevos puntos de vista. Los de los niños eran mucho más interesantes que los de los adultos. Veis ese dedo levantado en la foto? Sí, esa es Chloé dispuesta a dar su opinión sobre este cuadro de Delaunay. Claro que la obra de Kandinsky, en la foto, dió lugar a todo tipo de imaginativas interpretaciones. Y así descubrimos la sinestesia de Kandinsky y empezamos a hacer sonidos de colores...fué una tarde estupenda.

Madrid 1

I spent a few days in Madrid and although I had wanted to do much more things, I've done some as:

To visit the renovated City Hall and his new Centrocentro space, in the past the old post office. I must admit that I miss that big old office with all its hustle and lines, now everything is empty and quiet (and shiny!)
Discovering Stephen Shore at the Fundación Mapfre's exhibition and also enjoying Sorolla and his USA period.

I also had time to stroll and discover some places I had not seen nor did not exist when I lived in Madrid, like the area of Madrid Río.Enjoy the small exhibition of the great Ibañez at the Circulo de Bellas Artes.  
And of course, do weird masks with Maï and Chloé.

 He pasado unos días en Madrid y aunque me hubiese gustado hacer muchas más cosas, me ha dado tiempo a algunas como: 
Visitar el remodelado Ayuntamiento y su nuevo espacio Centrocentro que ocupa la antigua oficina de Correos. Tengo que admitir que echo de menos esa enorme y antigua oficina con todo su ajetreo y sus colas, ahora todo está muy vacío y silencioso (y reluciente!).
Descubrir a Stephen Shore en la exposición de la Fundación Mapfre, así como disfrutar de Sorolla y su etapa en EEUU.
También me ha dado tiempo de pasear y descubrir algunos lugares que aún no había visto ni existían cuando vivía en Madrid (ojalá!), como la zona de Madrid Río. 
Disfrutar de la pequeña expo del gran Ibañez en el Círculo de Bellas Artes. 
Y por supuesto, hacer extrañas caretas con Maï y Chloé.

Mediterráneo

Now that I am in Spain, again, I'm getting used to the changes (and heat!). Different smells, tastes and sounds (louder!) ;)
