Una mañana de octubre, mientras miraba al techo de mi salón, pensando en si debería, o no, enviar ilustraciones a la Feria del Libro de Bolonia, Lea apareció en mi salón (aunque por aquel entonces se hacía llamar Leela, léase Lila). Sentada en el viejo sofá, con su pelo rubio y su camiseta a rayas rojas, me miraba sonriendo mientras balanceaba sus pies. Cómo si nos conociésemos de hace mucho tiempo, empezó a contarme su historia. En algunos momentos no tenía absolutamente ningún sentido lo que me contaba, incluso, juraría que cambiaba de idioma, pero ella seguía hablando, sin parar, creyendo que podía entenderla.
No pude evitar sentirme atraída por algunos detalles de su historia. Tomé notas de todo lo que contó y conseguí entender. Le di las gracias por su visita y le deseé todo lo mejor, esperando que quizá nos volviésemos a encontrar en un futuro.
Pero... no parecía que tuviese intención de irse... a ninguna parte. De hecho, sacó un trozo de chocolate de su bolsillo y se puso a masticarlo tranquilamente.
Me senté a trabajar, esperando que se marchara una vez hubiese terminado su chocolate o de simple aburrimiento, pero seguía tranquilamente en el sofá y sonriéndome de vez en cuando.
Me resultaba difícil concentrarme y trabajar mientras ella seguía allí, mirándome, así que le pregunté si podía ayudarla en algo. Vino corriendo desde el sofá y asomando su naricilla por encima del borde de la mesa me dijo: "Quiero ir a la feria del libro de Bolonia!".
Estaba claro que ella sabía algo que yo no sabía entonces, pero accedí a su deseo. Al fin y al cabo no tenía una idea mejor y la verdad es que le estaba cogiendo cariño rápidamente.
Le advertí de que no podía garantizar que viese mucho de la Feria pero no pareció importarle.
Nos llevó un par de días decidir las imágenes y protagonistas de la historia, así como la técnica y colores a utilizar. Tras poco discutir y muchas pruebas, al final, estábamos contentas con el resultado.
Nos despedimos en la oficina de Correos, le desee mucha suerte, esperando vernos en Bolonia.
Tal cómo ella deseaba, nos vimos en la Feria del Libro, rodeadas de viejos y nuevos amigos.
Después de Bolonia ha estado viajando por Japón visitando diversos museos y también ha estado en una gran exposición en Taipei.
A su vuelta, hace unos meses, insistió en que deberíamos contar su historia en un libro y este es el resultado.
Lea se ha vuelto a marchar de viaje pero estoy segura de que me visitará en algún momento para contarme sus andanzas! Mientras espero que disfrutéis de esta.
Tengo que agradecer a varias personas el que este libro se haya publicado pero entre ellas quiero destacar a mi editora, Teresa Tellechea, por su apoyo y confianza en el proyecto, y a Alberto Sobrino, por sus consejos.

One October morning,while I stared at the ceiling
of my living room, thinking about whether I should or not send illustrations to the Book Fair in Bologna, Lea appeared in my living room
(though at that time she called herself Leela). Sitting on the old sofa, with her blond hair and red striped shirt, she looked at me smiling as she swung her feet.
As if we knew each other a long time ago, she began to tell her story. At times it had absolutely no sense what she told me, even I swear that she changed the language, but she kept talking, nonstop, believing I could understand.
It was impossible not to be attracted to some details of her story. I took notes of everything she told me and I got to understand. I thanked her for her visit and wish her all the best, hoping that maybe we meet again in the future.
But ... it doesn't seem that she intended to go ... anywhere. In fact, he took a piece of chocolate from his pocket and began to chew quietly.
I sat down to work, waiting for her to leave once she had finished her chocolate or get tired, but she remained quietly on the couch and smiling occasionally. I find it hard to concentrate and work while she was still there, watching me, so I asked if I could help her in something.
She came running from the couch and sticking out his little nose over the edge of the table she said, "I want to go to Bologna Bookfair".
It was clear that she knew something I did not knew then, but I agreed to her desire. After all, I didn't have a better idea, and the truth is that I was getting fond of her.
I warned her that I couldn't guarantee her to see the Bookfair, but she didn't seem to care. It took us a couple of days to decide the images and characters of the story, as well as technical stuff and colors to use. After little discussion and many tests, at the end, we were happy with the result.
We said goodbye at the post office, I wish her good luck, and hoping to see her again in Bologna.
As she wished, we met at the Book Fair, surrounded by old and new friends.
After Bologna, she has been traveling around Japan visiting various museums and has also been in a major exhibition in Taipei.
On her return, a few months ago, she insisted that we should tell her story in a book. Lea has gone on a trip again, but I'm sure she will visit me sometime to tell her adventures! Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this one.
