We had Churros this morning (I haven't eaten them in a long time!) What are churros? A typical spanish food, consisting of a long thin cylinder of dough, deep-fried in olive oil and dusted with sugar. We eat them usually with thick hot drinking chocolate, especially for breakfast.

But in spanish we use the word churro with many more meanings, most of the time negative. In illustration, for example, when you have a bad day (or even a good day) and you did a sloppy work, you can say to yourself, after looking closely at the final illustration: " Vaya churro!"

Esta mañana tomamos Churros (no los comía desde hace tiempo!) Qué son churros? (pregunta más bien para aquellos que no son españoles ni los comieron nunca). Una comida típica española,que consiste en un cilindro alargado de masa que se fríe en aceite de oliva y se espolvorea con azúcar. Normalmente lo comemos acompañado de una bebida de chocolate caliente espeso, preferiblemente en el desayuno.

Pero en español usamos la palabra "churro" con otras acepciones, en mayor parte negativas. En ilustración, por ejemplo, si tienes un mal día (o incluso un buen día) y has hecho un trabajo chapucero, puedes decirte, después de mirar detenidamente a tu ilustración:"Vaya churro!".

I spent these days with my family, walking, enjoying the good weather, perusing old books, drawing...

I want to thank, especially, Yolanda for sending me his latest book published by Imaginarium: Little Red Riding Hood (yes! my favourite character). A great surprise! The coloring book, crayons and stamps comes in a small suitcase, very similar to one that had a child. Thank you!

These weeks I'm working away from the cold Berlin and enjoying the Mediterranean sky.
I forgot to tell you about the project that Camilla Engman held a few weeks ago on his blog: to make an illustrated book about her lovely dog Morran. An open call in which each illustrator could give their views on the little big Morran. In Studio Morran you can see the works of the participants.

Another project that has made me very happy is my collaboration in the new magazine Kireii coming out this next December. Until now you could enjoy the online magazine but these brave women dare everything and in a few weeks we will enjoy the magazine in our hands. I look forward to see it!

Estas semanas estoy trabajando lejos del frío berlinés y disfrutando del cielo mediterráneo.
Olvidé contaros sobre el proyecto que organizó Camilla Engman hace unas semanas en su blog: el hacer un libro ilustrado sobre su querida perra Morran. Una convocatoria abierta en el que cada ilustrador podía dar su visión sobre la pequeña gran Morran. En el blog Studio Morran podéis ir viendo las obras de los participantes.

Otro proyecto que me ha hecho mucha ilusión es mi colaboración en la nueva revista Kireii que sale este próximo mes de Diciembre. Hasta ahora se podía disfrutar de la revista online pero estas valientes mujeres se atreven con todo y en unas semanas podremos disfrutar de la revista en nuestras manos. Ya tengo ganas de verla!

Today I returned to the Reichstag, a building that I like not only for its architecture but for what it represents. From the terrace you have a magnificent view of the city also.
The truth is that the entire complex by the river, the Reichstag, the adjacent buildings and the Chancellery are impressive. In large part they are made of glass symbolizing the principle of transparency of the German democratic system.
I like to come here and sit by the river, is a good place to think.

I really like the work of Olly Moss, especially the posters (amazing the Star Wars Trilogy!). Here is his first solo solo show with paper-cut silhouettes.

Hoy he vuelto al Reichstag, un edificio que me gusta no solo por su arquitectura sino por lo que representa. Además desde la terraza tienes una vista magnífica de la ciudad.
La verdad es que todo el complejo junto al río, el Reichstag, los edificios adyacentes y la Cancillería son impresionantes. Gran parte de ellos están hechos de vidrio simbolizando el principio de transparencia del régimen democrático alemán.
Me gusta venir aquí y sentarme junto al rio, es un buen sitio para pensar.

The well-known Konnopke's Imbiss and his currywurst are back in the usual place. Not that the new golden look seems to me a great success but ... matter of taste!

I love Seth comic's but I had not seen the small cardboard versions of the buildings in Dominion City!

I recently went to visit the Boros Collection, a private art collection housed in a bunker located in the area of Mitte.
It's a "Hochbunker", a peculiarly German type of construction, buildings that were built exclusively to protect people from bombings and unlike other such shelters (like those underground) they were indeed considered completely bomb-proof.
This one stills here because their demolition was very expensive and involved damage to adjacent buildings.
Not only it's an interesting collection of art but the building itself. Built in 1942 it was occupied by the Soviets in 1945, during the GDR was called the "Bananabunker" as they used to store fruit. During the 90's became a techno club ending in 2003 to be acquired by the Boros family to house his private art collection.
There have been some alterations inside the building, as removing some ceilings to give more height to the rooms (ceilings are usually of 2.20 mts) and the owners superloft at the top of the building.

Recientemente fui a visitar la Colección Boros, una colección de arte privada que tiene su sede en un bunker situado la zona de Mitte.
Este es un "Hochbunker", edificios que se construían exclusivamente para resguardar a la gente de los bombardeos y al contrario que otros refugios de este tipo (como aquellos bajo tierra) estos se consideraban resistentes a las bombas. Es una construcción que se hacía sólo en Alemania. Este sigue aquí porque su demolición era muy costosa y suponía dañar a los edificios colindantes.
No sólo es interesante la colección de arte sino el edificio en sí. Construído en 1942 fue ocupado por los soviets en el 45, durante la RDA se le llamaba el "Bananabunker" ya que servía para almacenar fruta. Durante los 90 se convirtió en un techno club acabando en el 2003 por ser adquirido por la familia Boros que ha hecho del lugar la sede de su colección privada de arte.
Ha habido algunas reformas en el edificio, como quitar algunos techos para dar mayor altura a las salas (ya que eran espacios de 2,20 de alto en su mayoría) y el superloft de los dueños en la parte superior del edificio.

This tree is in my backyard. He spends all the winter asleep, under rain and snow. When spring comes sprouts white flowers which drops as if it were snow. The whole yard is covered with white petals.
Probably, I'm not going to see him do his performance the next spring but it's nice to think that he will snow petals every year in this same place.
I don't even know his name (I mean what kind of tree it is) :) Anyone knows?

Este árbol está en mi patio trasero. Se pasa todo el invierno dormido, bajo lluvia y nieve. Cuando llega la primavera le brotan unas flores blancas que se dedica a dejar caer como si fuese nieve. Todo el patio está cubierto de pétalos blancos.
Probablemente, no voy a verle transformarse la próxima primavera pero es agradable pensar que él, año tras año, hará nevar pétalos en este mismo lugar.
Ni siquiera sé cómo se llama (me refiero a que tipo de ábol es) :) Alguien lo sabe?

Dogs in Berlin are something special, they are quite relaxed (like the city) and often go loose.
They do not receive many orders from their owners because it seems that they know how to behave when they get on the tram or the subway.
It's fun to see how they observe the people and ,if you look them, most likely,they will pretend they don't see you, with that funny eyebrow movement that dogs do.
It would be very interesting to have a conversation with them.

Los perros en Berlín tienen algo especial, son bastante relajados (como la ciudad) y, a menudo, van sueltos.
No reciben constantemente órdenes de sus dueños porque parece que saben como hay que comportarse cuando suben al tranvía o al metro. Es divertido verles cómo observan a la gente que va sentada en el vagón y si les miras, lo más probable es que disimulen con ese movimiento de cejas que hacen.
Creo que sería muy interesante mantener una conversación con ellos.
