Bologna Bookfair I

No matter how many times I've been to Italy, every time I return never ceases to amaze me that nothing changes ( in a positive and negative way). The same could be said about the Bookfair, where I have not seen big news.
I really liked the work of Philip Giordano Winner of the 2010 International Prize for Illustration - Bologna Children’s Book Fair - Fundación SM. There was a small exhibition showing some of the illustrations of his latest book "La princesa noche resplandeciente" published by SM.
It was also interesting to enjoy the funny conversation between Jutta Bauer and Nikolaus Heidelbach, these two great german illustrators, celebrating the H.C. Andersen Award 2010 that she has won.
A great novelty at the fair has been the iPad, not only by its massive presence in the bussines class of all flights to Bologna but because it has proved to be a perfect way to present the work as illustrator. Some may disagree with this view but, although for some it may seem romantic to see original artwork, at the fair, when you have to present a project, this new medium makes a good impression.
And this brings us to the issue that many illustrators we talked among ourselves and with some publishers, the e-books. Reactions are mixed, perhaps because it's novelty and the lack of regulation (copyright, licenses...). But even with this legal vacuum I find exciting to see how this new type of book is going to develop. It offers so many possibilities for both, illustrators and developers. I think we enter a new challenging phase.

Tomorrow I will show some of the selected illustrators of the Bologna Exhibition. This year, with a large presence of Japanese illustrators, always so refreshing.
